On April 21, 2025, the Christian world mourned the passing of Pope Francis at 88, following a respiratory illness that led to a stroke and heart failure.

His funeral on April 26 in St. Peter’s Square honored his legacy of compassion and social justice, with his burial in a modest tomb at the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, as per his wishes.

Notable attendees included U.S. President Donald Trump, while King Charles III was absent, represented by Prince William.

This absence was due to royal tradition, which dictates that the monarch does not attend funerals of religious leaders outside the Anglican Communion. King Charles and Queen Camilla expressed their sorrow through a public statement, praising the Pope’s vision for unity.

As the world said goodbye to Pope Francis, it was clear that his teachings would continue to inspire those seeking hope and compassion.

His absence from the funeral highlighted the monarchy’s responsibilities and the significance of symbolic presence in honoring influential figures.
